Abstract

The subject of the respective images of the Argentine and Paraguayan peoples finds in the war that had them as actors together with Brazil and Uruguay in the period 1865-1870, and in its consequences, abundant material for its study. This war cataclysm, which in many ways is still unique in the Latin American context, left deep traces in the collective memory, created myths and fixed images. Precisely this work wishes to draw attention to the images that historiography, the press and governmental documentation (especially Argentinean) would bear since the end of the war. Although the subject matter is here only inchoate, the ultimate purpose is to answer the difficult question of how this image would operate in the diplomatic action, favoring or hindering it.
