Abstract

The essay considers the soul-mind-body relation in the light of the challenges of the new naturalism. This very often incorporates a severe reductionism and a materialistic option which is an apriori, not the outcome of an argument; J. Searle defines materialism as the religion of our times. Besides, the essay examines the present oblivion of soul, its reduction to the only mind-body problem, the consistency of the hylomorphic thesis, explained through the Aquinas’ solutions, the equivoque of Cartesian dualism. The paper is closed by an insight into the question of soul immortality.
